How eBay fees work for trading cards

For sellers without an eBay Store, trading cards (sports, non-sport and collectible card games) carry a final value fee of 13.25% on the first $7,500 of an order and 2.35% on anything above that. On top of it is a per-order fee of $0.30 for orders of $10 or less and $0.40 above $10.

The final value fee is charged on the whole order: the item, the shipping you charge, and the sales tax the buyer pays. That last part surprises people. A $20 card with $1.25 shipping to a buyer paying 7% tax is charged on about $22.74, not $20.

Promoted Listings

If you promote a listing and it sells through the ad, eBay adds the ad rate you chose as a separate fee. At 5% on a $20 card that's another dollar, so it only pays off on cards that wouldn't sell without it. The calculator applies the rate to the item and shipping.

The hidden costs that decide cheap cards

On low-priced cards the per-order fee, the shipping label and supplies matter more than the percentage. A $0.99 card with $0.99 shipping pays about $0.58 in fees and $0.78 for a Standard Envelope label, which leaves pennies after supplies. That's why bundling cheap cards into lots, or charging a little more for shipping, is often the better play.
